Green Building Certification

The Maritime Technology Innovation Center (MTIC) is dedicated not only to advancing offshore wind and marine engineering technologies but also to integrating the core principles of sustainable development into its architectural design. Built in accordance with Taiwan’s EEWH Green Building Standards, our facilities are designed to achieve ecological harmony and significant carbon reduction.

Introduction to Taiwan’s Green Building Label (EEWH)

The Taiwan Green Building Label (EEWH) was established by the Architecture and Building Research Institute (ABRI) of the Ministry of the Interior. It is the first green building evaluation system in Asia and the fourth in the world. Specifically tailored for the tropical and subtropical climate of Taiwan (characterized by high temperature and humidity), it focuses on four core categories:

  • Ecology
  • Energy Saving
  • Waste Reduction
  • Health

According to statistics from the Taiwan Architecture & Building Center (TABC), as of January 2026, the cumulative number of certified cases is as follows:

Category (As of Jan 2026) Green Building Labels Percentage Candidate Certificates Percentage
Certified 2,163 39.31% 3,531 36.82%
Bronze 672 12.21% 1,053 10.98%
Silver 1,342 24.39% 2,725 28.41%
Gold 564 10.25% 972 10.13%
Diamond 382 6.94% 238 2.48%
Exempt from Rating 380 6.91% 1,072 11.18%
Total 5,503 100% 9,591 100%

MTIC has been honored with the Diamond Grade Green Building Label. Out of 5,503 certified cases, only 382 reached the Diamond level, placing MTIC within the top 6.94% of all sustainable buildings in Taiwan. Beyond regulatory compliance, this achievement demonstrates MTIC’s leadership in maritime technology—driving offshore wind innovation while minimizing its environmental footprint to achieve true sustainable development.

The Nine Indicators of Green Building

The EEWH system evaluates buildings across four categories, further subdivided into nine specific indicators. MTIC adheres to these rigorous scientific metrics throughout its planning and operations.

Category (EEWH) Indicator Objective and Definition
Ecology Biodiversity Enhancing ecological diversity and creating habitats for local flora and fauna.
Greenery Utilizing multi-layered vegetation (trees, shrubs, turf) to increase carbon sequestration.
Soil Water Content Using permeable pavement and eco-engineering to maintain natural water cycles in the soil.
Energy Saving Daily Energy Saving (Mandatory) Optimizing building envelope insulation and high-efficiency HVAC/lighting systems.
Waste Reduction CO2 Reduction Selecting low-carbon, energy-efficient materials to reduce the building's carbon footprint.
Waste Reduction Managing construction waste and promoting the recycling of building materials.
Health Indoor Environment Ensuring acoustic, lighting, and ventilation quality using non-toxic and healthy materials.
Water Conservation (Mandatory) Installing water-saving fixtures and rainwater harvesting systems for water efficiency.
Sewage & Garbage Implementing advanced sewage treatment and structured waste management systems.

Green Building Grading System

Grade Percentile Ranking Significance
Diamond Top 5% Excellence: Exceptional performance in energy, ecology, and health; a benchmark for sustainability.
Gold Top 5% – 20% Superior: High-level integrated environmental design exceeding regulatory standards.
Silver Top 20% – 40% Good: Stable performance across multiple indicators with mature energy-saving designs.
Bronze Top 40% – 70% Adequate: Appropriate environmental measures to reduce operational impact.
Certified Bottom 30% Qualified: Meets basic green building thresholds and regulatory requirements.

Note: "Exempt from Rating Assessment" This category refers to buildings that meet the minimum mandatory entry thresholds but do not seek a specific rank. These buildings do not display a grade (Diamond, Gold, etc.) on their certificates.

Scoring Standards and Thresholds

Certification is based on a dual standard: Mandatory Thresholds and Cumulative Scoring (RS Value).

  • Mandatory Thresholds: All applicants must pass the Daily Energy Saving and Water Conservation indicators.
  • Scoring Logic: Scores are calculated based on the technical implementation of the nine indicators relative to the building's category and scale.
Grade Total Score (RS) Percentile Rank Significance
Diamond RS ≧ 64 Above 95% Top-tier Benchmark: Best-in-class environmental performance.
Gold 53 ≦ RS < 64 80% – 95% Superior Practice: High-efficiency carbon reduction.
Silver 45 ≦ RS < 53 60% – 80% Good Practice: Exceeds legal standards.
Bronze 37 ≦ RS < 45 30% – 60% Adequate Protection: Implementation of environmental measures.
Certified 20 ≦ RS < 37 Below 30% Compliance: Meets basic greenery and energy requirements.
